Kendriya Vidyalaya is a system of Central Government schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The system came into being in 1962 under the name "Central Schools" and has been affiliated with CBSE since then. Later, the name was changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 Dhanbad opened its eyes in the year 1973. In 2014 school shifted a new Building at Binod Nagar, Dhanbad. The School has a huge play ground and staff Quarters also. It is an ideal place for teaching and learning as it is far away from the hustle and Bustle of the city. It is a co-educational institution. It has the classes from I to XII.
