DESCRIPTION:

The land where Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School stands today was bought in 1983 from Dr. Sechu. Fr. PalathinkalKuriakose, the then principal of Don Bosco, Kohima and Fr. Vadakethanikal Sebastian, the then provincial economer did the ground work in procuring the land.

In the beginning building constructions were looked after by Fr. V.J. Sebastian. DBS Dimapur was opened on 19th March 1985, feast day of St. Joseph. It was a date decided upon by Fr. Mathew Pulingathil, the then provincial of the province of Dimapur and Fr. V.J. Sebastian, who entrusted the entire venture to the care of St. Joseph. Today we know for certain, St. Joseph has not let us down. There were 14 students in all and the first headmaster was Fr. Pottukulam Mathew and the first teacher was Mrs Sherly. The school was conducted in a thatched shed.

Initially the school was looked after from the provincial house, located in Signal Basti. The foundation stone for the school building was blessed by late Bishop Abraham Alangimattathil SDB on 26th March, 1985. The stone was laid by Shri K.L. Chishi, Minister of Education and rural Development. Fr. Mathew Pulingathil, whose dream and desire it was to have a Don Bosco School in Dimapur, presided over the function. The constructions were finally completed in 1992.
