Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Batwara, Srinagar, established on 1st February 1967, is one of the most reputed schools in Srinagar. It is administered by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan-New Delhi, an autonomous body setup in 1965, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Govt. of India, intending to impart uninterrupted education to the children of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence Personnel all over India and abroad. At present KVS manages nearly 1087 schools which produce excellent results in the CBSE examination and moulding the character of the future generation.

About Kendriya Vidyalaya Family: On the recommendation of the 2nd Central Pay Commission in 1962 to provide common education with common syllabus and curriculum to the children of transferable Central government employees including defence personnel, the Ministry of Education, Government of India took over 25 regimental school run by defence establishment and converted into Central schools in 1963. Later on these Central School were rechristened as Kendriya Vidyalayas and as on today near about 1087 Kendriya Vidyalayas through the breadth and length of our country meet the needs of a common education to the children of transferable Central Government Employees, defence and project personnel. This phenomenal growth of KV is due to its popularity and rapid stride in all key areas of present (day education reforms and has come to be recognized as pivotal institutions striving to rise the quality of education at school level.
